I keep seeing this style of text pop up in blogs and social media graphics so it must be somewhat popular. You know, the shiny gold text that screams glamour and sophistication? You've seen it, I'm sure.
It's actually really easy to create using Adobe Illustrator. Follow the steps below and you'll be able to create pretty gold text whenever and for whatever you want!

1. Open up a new Illustrator document (any size) and draw a rectangle (again, any size) using the rectatngle tool from your tool palette.
2. Go to Window-->Gradient to bring up your gradient option window. Selection your rectangle and and then click on the default grayscale gradient so that your rectangle now fades from white to black.
3. Next, you're going to add more color markers along your color bar. This number is completely personal preference but I usually add about 8 additional color tabs:
4. Next, you are going to want to go in and change the color for every other marker. You'll want to pick 2 or 3 different shades of gold. These different shades of color are what is going to give our text the 3 dimensional look! The two gold colors that I use for my text are #CCBF48 & #B4984B but you can play around with these colors until you get exactly what you prefer.
In order to change each individual color bar marker just double click on the marker, itself, it will bring up a color palette window where you can select a color or enter exact color formulas like the two I gave you. You want to alternate two different shades of gold until you've re-colored each marker along the slider.
5. Once you get your gradient colors exactly how you want them you should also also add this gradient to your swatches so you can easily call it back again later. If you click on the small triangle right next to your fill square, a little drop down menu will appear and you can click on the small graphic at the very bottom that says "add to swatches".
6. Now comes the fun part!!! Go ahead and type out whatever you want your shiney gold text to say and place that text smack dab in the middle of your gold rectangle. The size and the color still do not matter at this point because we can resize and change the color at any point.
7. Now you are going to use a series of 3 really short, quick menu commands: a) with your text selected go to the TYPE menu and choose "create outlines" b) then go to the OBJECT menu and select "compound path" c) and the last step is to select BOTH your rectangle and your text, go to OBJECT menu and down at the bottom select "clipping mask".
VIOLA! Your text is now neatly filled with your shiny gold gradient swatch that you created at the begnning of the tutuorial!
Still doesn't look quite right? No worries. This is the beautiful thing about using Adobe Illustrator... you can go back and change anything, easily and quickly. Just remove your clipping mask and your text and background are back to being two separate, editable entities.
Thanks and have a super awesome, creative, fun filled day!
